Kodai Diaries (2025)
Genre: Romantic Drama / Mystery
Setting: Kodaikanal, India
Kodai Diaries (2025) : Ananya Varma, a 29-year-old travel blogger, feels lost. Heartbreak and burnout have dulled her passion for writing. Her editor pushes her to take a solo trip to clear her head. Reluctantly, she agrees and travels to Kodaikanal, hoping the hills will heal her.
She checks into an old colonial homestay nestled in the mist. It promises quiet and solitude. But instead of peace, Ananya finds a dusty attic filled with mystery.
The Forgotten Diaries
Hidden in the attic are a stack of diaries from the 1940s. They’re written by Eleanor Hartley, a British woman who once lived in the same house. Eleanor’s words describe a secret romance with Karthik, a local Tamil poet, during India’s independence era.
Ananya gets drawn into their story. The entries end abruptly, with the last page smeared and unfinished. The mystery hooks her. She wants to know what happened to Eleanor and Karthik.
New Connections
While exploring the town, Ananya meets Aarav Menon, a quiet historian researching the British presence in Kodai. Their bond grows as they search for clues about the couple. They visit old churches, speak to locals, and hike forgotten trails.
As they uncover pieces of the past, Ananya begins to heal. She also starts to fall for Aarav, though neither of them says it out loud.
The Mystery Deepens
Strange things begin to happen. Ananya dreams vividly about Eleanor’s life. Someone tries to stop her from reading further. Locals whisper about the house being cursed.
Despite the warnings, Ananya and Aarav push on. They believe the story needs to be finished.
The Truth at Last
During a festival, they follow Eleanor’s last clues to a chapel hidden by the lake. Inside, they find a sealed wall. Behind it lies a final, unsent letter. Eleanor had planned to elope with Karthik. But her family intervened. She was forced to leave India forever.
Karthik never recovered. He died shortly after. Eleanor never returned but kept writing letters she could never send.
A New Chapter
Ananya writes a heartfelt blog post titled “The Kodai Diaries.” It goes viral, breathing life back into her writing career. But more importantly, it gives her a sense of purpose again.
She decides to stay in Kodaikanal for a while. In the final scene, she and Aarav walk into the mist, ready to write their own story.
