Live (2023) – Malayalam Film Plot Summary
Live (2023) is a socially charged Malayalam-language thriller directed by V. K. Prakash. The film presents a gripping commentary on the dangerous spread of fake news and the devastating impact of digital misinformation. Set in modern-day Kerala, the story focuses on how unchecked media narratives can ruin lives in the blink of an eye.
The Story Begins
At the heart of the story is Anna, played by Priya Prakash Varrier, a bright and hopeful young woman. Her life turns upside down when a fake news broadcast wrongfully targets her. Consequently, Anna becomes the center of public shame and online abuse. As her mental and emotional health deteriorate, the world around her remains largely indifferent.
Meanwhile, Dr. Amala Sriram, portrayed by Mamta Mohandas, is also under attack. She faces cyber harassment after standing up against a powerful hospital chain. Although they come from different backgrounds, both women find common ground in their fight for truth. Eventually, they decide to take on the media forces responsible for spreading falsehoods.
Fighting Back
Together, Anna and Dr. Amala launch a battle against a corrupt media ecosystem. They expose the networks that profit from fake news and online manipulation. In doing so, the film sheds light on the vulnerability of individuals in today’s fast-moving digital world.
As the plot unfolds, Sriram (played by Soubin Shahir) and Sam John Vakathanam (played by Shine Tom Chacko) add complexity to the narrative. Their actions highlight the blurred lines between professional ethics and personal agendas.
Themes and Impact
The film touches on several key issues—media ethics, public accountability, and digital harassment. It asks critical questions: Who controls the narrative? Who pays the price when the truth is distorted? Most importantly, it shows the emotional cost paid by ordinary people when media crosses moral lines.
Although the film tackles an important topic, critics believe it could have dug deeper. The script feels underdeveloped at times, and some performances lack the emotional intensity the subject demands.
